What is YouCan?
YouCan is a trademarked programme, designed to help young people who have a caring role to build self-esteem and better peer relationships within the school setting. We often abbreviate Young Carers to YC so the ‘YouCan’ programme uses those initials whilst sending the positive message that carers' CAN achieve and CAN be a part of something! The idea behind YouCan is to not just support young carers in the short term but to leave a legacy and give them skills and
support-networks in school, so they feel able to manage their caring responsibilities. We also aim to raise awareness with other students and teaching staff so young carers are more easily recognised and accepted. The YouCan programme offers awareness sessions to staff teaching and marketing materials.
