What is YouCan?

YouCan is a trademarked programme, designed to help young people who have a caring role to build self-esteem and better peer relationships within the school setting. We often abbreviate Young Carers to YC so the ‘YouCan’ programme uses those initials whilst sending the positive message that carers' CAN achieve and CAN be a part of something! The idea behind YouCan is to not just support young carers in the short term but to leave a legacy and give them skills and

support-networks in school, so they feel able to manage their caring responsibilities. We also aim to raise awareness with other students and teaching staff so young carers are more easily recognised and accepted. The YouCan programme offers awareness sessions to staff teaching and marketing materials.

Sessions Include

Pouch's Magical Worry Cheeks

Set on a typical school day, Cleo, James and Sophie are struggling as they are carrying the weight of their worries in their school bags. It is then we meet Pouch the magical school hamster, who through talking, is able to alleviate these worries, filling up his hamster cheeks and instilling the children with a positive "YouCan" mentality.

We are here to offer support, advice and information on your caring role, in the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire region.
